It contains all the basic tools you seem to be seeking: which includes a metronome, basic MIDI, and looping. If you do have a mac, you don't need to buy anything, because a copy of Garageband comes all set up on every new mac.

Right now, I'm thinking the 2008.5 Pro edition (priced at $129 on Amazon) would fill my needs for the least amount of money. The prices on this thing differ pretty drastically, and I really don't feel the need to shell out more money than I need to in order to just get the features that I want. So, for those of you out there who might be more familar with this program, I was hoping you could give me some advice on which one to buy if my primary (actually, my only) interest is to have this as sort of a glorified metronome, with the ability to include real bluegrass instrument tracks. I realize this is a pretty powerful program, with lots of features, but I really just want to be able to create loops for me to practice over, especially for fiddle tunes or to get used to hearing other instruments when I'm learning and practicing vocal songs and lead breaks. However, I have found the various versions really confusing. I especially like the new Real samples that let you layer "real" instruments into a loop instead of midi tracks. Or save your composition in a other compressed audio format for a file that's "Internet ready.I finally got around to checking this thing out and I gotta admit, it looks pretty cool. And when you're ready to let others hear your composition, you can burn it directly to an audio CD. You can print out your finished creation with lyrics, chords, repeats and endings, DC markings and codas, or save it as a graphics file for web publication or to e-mail to a friend.
